Today, Maggie Howell, Executive Director of the New York -based Wolf Conservation Center, and one of the world's most active and successful wolf conservationists, celebrates her birthday.
According to the latest official count by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (LuKe), in January 2015, ca. 220-245 wolves are living in Finland. In February 2014, the count resulted in 140-155 individuals. Also according to LuKe, under normal circumstances ca. 700 wolves should be living in Finland.
After the publishing of a strongly opinionated article against wolves in the Finnish Kennel Club's member's magazine "Koiraamme", masses of conservation-minded members are now announcing their leaving the club in social media.
The Central Pohjanmaa district court today sentenced twelve men to suspended sentences of one year and 2 month for an aggravated hunting crime. Three more were acquitted.
